The work list

3,907 productions on this atlas have no dot on the map, because Wikidata does not record a filming location precise enough to place them. They are listed here, most widely known first, so that anyone who wants to fix one can see which are worth fixing. Both lists are ordinary Wikidata edits and neither needs anything from me. How to make one is a page of its own.

Wikipedia already says it

1,682 productions where the English Wikipedia article names a place in a Filming or Production section and Wikidata holds no filming location this atlas can use. Nearly all of them have no statement whatsoever; a few have one pointing at something with no coordinates on it, which comes to the same thing here. This atlas reads those sentences and shows what it found, labelled “per Wikipedia”, but a sentence is weaker evidence than a statement and it stays off the map. These are the easy ones. The fact is written down, the article usually carries the citation already, and recording it as a filming location statement takes about a minute. The place named beside each title is what this site read; check it against the article before you record it, because a sentence can be misread and sometimes is.

1,532 more are not listed here. The whole set is in the open data, where a production with no pin carries its regions and its Wikipedia places instead.

Recorded, but only as a country

2,225 productions where Wikidata does record a filming location and it is a whole country, state or province. Casablanca is California, Gladiator is Malta and Morocco, Apocalypse Now is the Philippines. A statement like that is true and unmappable, so these pages say the country in words and show no pin. Refining one means finding where inside that country the crew actually worked and citing it, which is real research rather than transcription, and it is the more valuable of the two jobs. Many of these do have a Wikipedia article naming somewhere finer, shown on the production’s own page here under “per Wikipedia”, which is the place to start.

2,075 more are not listed here. The whole set is in the open data, where a production with no pin carries its regions and its Wikipedia places instead.

What is deliberately not here

Animation. 615 productions on this atlas are animated, and nothing was filmed anywhere in any of them, so asking for a filming location would be asking for something untrue. Video games, anime and manga are absent for the same reason and answer to a different property, narrative location, for where they are set. Productions this atlas has never heard of are also missing from this list by definition: it can only name what it carries, and what it carries is famous enough to have crossed a Wikipedia coverage bar.
